Craig "133" Jones is a musician, better known as the sampler/keyboardist of the nu-metal band Slipknot.

He was born Craig Michael Jones on February 11, 1972.

In the early days, Craig originally joined Slipknot as a guitar player to fill in for Donnie Steele, but later switched to being in control of the samples working with Sid Wilson. Craig also controls the guitar effects used live. His mask in the early days of Slipknot was a Gas Station mask with long needles, but eventually switched to a tight leather mask with six inch nails in it.

Craig is also in charge of the official Slipknot website[1], which he once ran with his wife before their divorce. His ex-wife died on May 3, 2005.

While all of the Slipknot band members wear their stage masks in the public eye, most have been seen without their masks, mainly due to side projects they may be involved in that do not have this same tradition. Craig Jones is the most elusive face of Slipknot, and no fan has ever seen his true face knowingly. (Some fans did see his face, knowingly, at the 'Duality' video shoot Slipknot held in Des Moines, IA). He is also a video game fanatic and gets his ideas for samples in songs from movies. Eg: The line "Here comes the pain" in the track "(Sic)" was taken from Carlito's Way; the voice was of Al Pacino. The opening track for their self-titled album was created by Craig, and the dialogue in the background, "The whole thing I think, is sick", was taken from a Charles Manson documentary.

Jones has also never been quoted officially as having made any comments to interviewers, preferring to start an interview with the zip covering his mouth opened, and closing it in answer to any questions asked. During photo shoots, he wears patches over his eyes to keep his anonymity. He is also known to leave shows early for the same reason. It would seem he is rather isolated and independent, which is why he is probably looked upon as the "darkest" member of the band.

James Root once said about Jones that: "He even scares me. I kind of feel I'm doing a service to the community by knowing where Craig is from day to day."

There is a persistent rumor that his only words have been when an interviewer asked him to describe himself; "I have a rather slim, serial killer profile." Craig Jones has given an interview about his samples to the company Cakewalk , which is the company he prefers when doing samples.

When asked about Craig, Slipknot's producer Ross Robinson said, "When I first met him he never talked. He was super-quiet and never spoke a word. I would point at him and say, hey dude, I bet you're the most psycho fucker in this band! And he still didn't say anything. I would try and get him to talk and he would just sit and stare at me. The first time he talked during an interview he said, "if I wasn't in this band I'd probably be out killing people." And when he said that, it caused so many problems, all these letters coming in. So the only time he talked, he caused a bunch of shit!" Whether or not this is true is unknown.

• The nickname "133" has been confirmed as the speed of the processor of Craig's first computer, which was high-tech at the time.
• It was rumored that Craig ran Slipknot1.com by himself, but it has been proven false.
• He is a computer game fanatic, his screen name when playing Quake III Arena online is ZZ 5. He even has his own "Slipknot member" skin, so it looks just like him when he plays.
• Just prior to some European dates with Slayer in October of 2004, Craig had to pull out of some dates due to some much needed dental surgery.
• He is a smoker.

James "Jim" Root (born October 2, 1971) is the current rhythm guitarist for Slipknot and the current lead guitarist for Stone Sour.

Masks

When James first joined Slipknot, he adopted ex-guitarist Josh Brainard's mask. It was a black bondage mask that covered most of his head. He had purple hair at the time and used to pull parts of it up through a hole in the top of the mask. After a couple of shows and one photo shoot, he decided to change masks, as the bondage mask was too uncomfortable to allow him to concentrate on playing. He adopted a jester's mask, said to represent that side of his personality. His most recent mask is a variation of this mask. It is still a jester's mask, but this one lacks the red diamond detailing around the eyes and a zipper in between the lips.

History

He joined during the end of the recording of the self-titled album. At this point, former guitarist Josh Brainard had decided to leave the band due to his unhappiness with the direction of the band. Singer Corey Taylor invited James to join the band, knowing him from their previous effort together, the first incarnation of Stone Sour. The only track on the self-titled album on which James can be heard is Purity, but this song was removed from the album due to a lawsuit and subsequent copies of the album do not feature any of James' playing.

Like the rest of Slipknot, James is from Des Moines, Iowa. At 6'6", he is the tallest member of the band. He worked as a screen printer, waiter, and busboy before joining Slipknot. James has played in previous bands such as Deadfront, Anal Blast, and Atomic Opera. James is also the co-guitarist for Stone Sour.

He and Corey reunited the band during the hiatus between the Slipknot albums Iowa and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)

Playing Style

In Slipknot, most of the guitar work is fast, heavy, rhythm guitar. James and co-guitarist Mick Thompson do trade some leads on the band's latest studio album, but their music is otherwise almost completely devoid of guitar solos. Guitars in Slipknot rarely take the spotlight, rather, Mick and James fill in the sonic territory not occupied by the band's other seven members. All guitars in Slipknot are tuned to C# tuning dropped B (Low to high, B, F#, B, E, G#, C#,) except for on the songs My Plague, The Heretic Anthem, Skin Ticket, New Abortion and Iowa, on which they are tuned to B tuning dropped A (Low to high, A, E, A, D, F#, B.) James's playing in Stone Sour concentrates more on building melodic metal anthems.

Christopher Michael Fehn was born February 24, 1972 and is one of two percussionists in the nu metal band Slipknot. Chris uses a Pinocchio style mask, which has been seen in many different colors and styles with the nose of the mask always staying at 7¹⁄₂ inches (about 19 cm) long. Chris's mask is most likely based on the masks worn by doctors during the Black Plague, where the nose was filled with herbs to 'protect' the doctor from inhaling the fumes of death, or possibly from A Clockwork Orange. Chris likes to simulate masturbation with the nose of his mask during shows. Chris was a college football kicker before the start of Slipknot. He does most of the backup vocals together with Shawn "Clown" Crahan, but bassist Paul Gray also performs them in many live songs.

     Facts

• Chris has a habit of "jerking off" his nose. He can be seen doing it in many interviews, the Spit it Out video, the Left Behind video , and on Conan O'Brien.
• He is said to be the comedic member of the band.
• He can be heard puking in the bonus track of Slipknot. It was his "initiation test" to see if he was worthy of being in Slipknot.
• Rolling Stone describes him as the most "handsome, wholesome" member of the band.

Masks

Chris actually owns 5 types of masks which are mostly different colors. His best-known mask is the regular tanned leather mask used during the Iowa tour and videos. Another well known mask is Fehn's red mask used mainly in the Subliminal Verses tour.

Chris told a local interviewer backstage at Slipknot's second Ozzfest show: "This mask reflects my comic personality. Plus I chose it for the bondage factor. When you put it on, it takes you to another place. It's very hot, it's very tight, and it hurts — that goes along with the aggression we create." In a more recent interview in London Fehn claimed that "The smell gets worse, it smells like puke, sweat and something else I'm not sure of"

Paul Gray

Paul Dedrick Gray (born April 8, 1972) is the bassist for the nine-piece alternative metal band Slipknot. He lives with his family in Des Moines, IA.

He has sung back up vocals for some of the Slipknot songs, such as "Spit it out" and "Disasterpiece" - usually when Corey Taylor's voice has become too dry, tired and hoarse. Unlike many other members in Slipknot, Paul was born in Los Angeles, CA but later moved with his family to Des Moines, IA, where he lives now.

He was formerly in bands such as Anal Blast, Vexx, Body Pit and Inveigh Catharsi and was one of the original members of Slipknot, along with Shawn Crahan and Anders Colsefini. He is also on tour with Reggie and the Full Effect.

Gray was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs in 2004.

Anal Blast still exists today in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of it's members, Don Decker, as a promoter in the midwestern region for death metal bands.

Masks

Some of his masks include a latex pigface and black deathmask that resembles the mask worn by Hannibal Lecter; the mask has nails going through the mouth socket. Also, in the "Houdini Mansion", during a photo shoot, the forehead of the mask was re-constructed to make it look as if there was a bullethole through it. Additionally at this time green colouring was added to cracks in the mask.

Joey Jordison (born Nathan Jonas Jordison on April 26, 1975)^{[citation needed]} is an American extreme metal drummer and guitarist from Des Moines, Iowa. He is best known for his role as drummer for nü metal group Slipknot during the 1990s and 2000s. He has also played with industrial-metal group Ministry, high profile metal act Metallica, and black metal legends Satyricon. He is also well known as the guitarist for Murderdolls, a glam metal/horror punk band which he founded in the 2000s, that is currently on indefinate hiatus due to the Murderdolls' members' side projects.

Recent Events

Joey will begin his first production effort with 3 Inches Of Blood in the coming month.

Joey said in a recent interview that he would follow in Wednesday 13's footsteps and give his daughter a short name. He said; "For sure, ya know what? I really like Zoie as a name, but Wednesdays got that, if and when I have a kid and its a girl, I'll just call her Zoie."

Roadrunner United

Recently, Jordison played a big part in the 25-year anniversary of Roadrunner Records, the record label which both of his bands - Slipknot and Murderdolls - are signed onto. Jordison was one of the four "team captains" for the project. His role involved organizing a "core band" of other musicians past and present on the Roadrunner label, and choosing vocalists to sing on his songs. Jordison produced, wrote the music, and played drums on the songs Annihilation By The Hands Of God, Tired 'N Lonely (also played bass guitar), No Way Out (also played bass guitar), Constitution Down and Enemy Of The State.

It is said that in the first meeting about which musicians on the Roadrunner label to approach for this project, Jordison's was the first name to come up. On the DVD for The All-Star Sessions, Jordison can be seen working on the tracks at a studio in Des Moines, Iowa, and is not wearing his famed Slipknot kabuki mask.

History Behind his Mask

There is meaning behind each Slipknot members' mask. They are a reflection of their personalities or a past personal experience. Jordison's Japanese Kabuki mask reflects a personal experience; when he was younger his mother wore the mask when he came home from halloween drunk. He was terrified of the emotionless stare of the mask. In the early days of Mate Feed Kill Repeat (album) he wore one plain white. For the Self-Titled album Slipknot, he decorated it with a few stripes and dots of paint. In Iowa he painted it with fake blood all over his mask, and for Vol. 3 he did a variation of designs on it, more notable with claw slashes. He also quotes: "The design enables it to feel however you want it to feel; scary, evil or perverted. All those things held in one mask".His new mask showed at the Fuse Fangoria Award show is gray with black markings.

Joey's Drumming

Joey Jordison has a standard approach to tackling a drumset. Joey is renowned in the metal scene for his supposed intricate use of the double bass and this can be heard in all of his albums. His ability to play controlled 32nd notes with both his hands and feet in the context of a song has made him known throughout the drum scene. Joey steers clear of what would be called typical beats and creates drum patterns that best suit the song. The Slipknot songs People = Shit, The Heretic Anthem, Me Inside (showing his double bass speed ability), and The Nameless showcase his ability behind a drum kit. However he has been criticized by numerous Ministry fans for not being able to perform most Ministry songs to a reasonable degree.[1][2]
